Marina Wake
Marina Wake is a renowned Taming Master and the Hydro Elemental Master, residing in Olive City. She uses her Taming Master stipend to maintain the Natatorium, where she passionately teaches swimming to others. Defeating Marina in battle grants the Hydro Seal of Approval.
Appearance & Personality
Marina has long, blue dreadlocks adorned with gold jewelry, complementing her striking blue eyes. She’s always ready for a swim, often seen wearing outfits designed for quick dives into the water.
Calm and composed, Marina is deeply connected to the ocean, finding serenity and peace when submerged. For her, swimming washes away her worries, and she even jokes about being able to fall asleep in the water like an otter. Her patience and nurturing nature make her a great teacher, especially with children, as she excels at noticing when her students start to grasp the skills she imparts. Known for her fearlessness, Marina once swam from Olive City's port to a nearby island without the help of her Kaimon, a feat that earned her admiration from many.
Despite her easygoing nature, Marina often keeps her distance from her older brother, Caeso Wake, due to his overbearing protectiveness—a dynamic that troubles her.
Backstory
One of Marina’s earliest memories is being frightened by a lightning storm as a child. Her father comforted her by bringing her to a window to safely watch the storm, instilling in her a sense of awe and wonder about nature’s beauty, even in danger.
A defining moment in her life came when she nearly drowned during a beach outing with her brother, Caeso. Caught in a powerful current, Marina was dragged beneath the waves. Yet, instead of fear, she felt an overwhelming peace as sunlight shimmered through the water. Just before she succumbed to the tide, her first Kaimon, Gilactic, saved her. This experience deepened her love for the ocean, marking the start of her close bond with the water.
Marina later became a lifeguard in Olive City, becoming somewhat of a local celebrity for her bravery and dedication. One day, she saved a drowning child with the help of her Gilactic, hoping the child would come to appreciate the ocean's beauty. However, the child's terrified reaction deeply unsettled her, leading Marina to question her unique connection with the water. This motivated her to teach others how to swim, determined to help them see the ocean as she does, rather than fear it.
Over time, Marina developed a powerful team of Hydro Kaimon and competed in the prestigious Master Tournament, ultimately earning the title of Taming Master. Her deep connection to the ocean and her Hydro Kaimon also earned her the title of Hydro Elemental Master. Using the stipend she receives, she established the Natatorium in Olive City, where she continues to teach both private and group swimming lessons, sharing her love for the water.
Relationships
- Caeso Wake: Marina’s older brother. After her near-drowning incident, Caeso blamed himself and became overly protective, unwilling to listen to how Marina truly felt about the event. This led Marina to distance herself from him as they grew older, though she still feels love for him.
- Gilactic: Gilactic was Marina’s first Kaimon, saving her from drowning as a child. The two share a deep bond, often working together with Gilactic’s sonar abilities to navigate the ocean.
